Have fun with friends and toy soldiers. Place a greater emphasis on gaming with friends. We are alone too much in this hobby. I was surprised to read James Michener's remarks in Return To Paradise. To paraphrase, we think it idyllic to remove ourselves to a beautiful tropical island. Those who did this in the 1930s wanted to disconnect from their familiars and abandon past lives. However, after a while a kind of paradise fever negatively affected their morale - as solitary confinement will. ********************* Our hobby can be like that. Later the lovely and magnificent ocean, graceful palms, white beaches and all the rest faded in their desires. All that beauty was not enough. All people need other people. No man or woman is an island. Plan more activities with your friends. You will be mentally and physically healthier too.

Painting as a Pastime
"Churchill wrote a little book entitled Painting as a Pastime in 1948 and illustrated it with good color reproductions of his favorite canvases. Clearly enough, he ... [saw] his painting as relaxation rather than a serious expression of his creative force."
"Change is the master key," he [said]. A man can wear out a particular part of his mind by continually using it and tiring it, just as in the same way he can wear out the elbows of his coat."
"...when he was past forty, Churchill suddenly realized that he was wearing out the elbows of his mind and decided that 'The cultivation of a hobby and new forms of interest is therefore a policy of first importance to a public man.'

Churchill: "The philosopher may observe with pity, and the philanthropist deplore with pain, that the attention of so many minds should be directed to the scientific destruction of the human species; but practical people in a business-like age will remember that they live in a world of men - not - angels and regulate their conduct accordingly."
