CHAPTER I
SEPTEMBER 05, 1898
AN IMAGINEERED SUDAN CAMPAIGN
RECONNAISSANCE
LEIGHTON'S AND BELLINGER'S SCOUTS
"There it is Sahib Leighton," said Naik (Corporal) Singh.
"A Crusader castle, surely?" mused Leighton.
"The Mountain Stronghold where resides Ragnar Khan. He is the singular nemesis of the Queen and General Pettygree here," said Lieutenant Leighton. Then....
"Singh, hurriedly interrupted, "I hear shots fired upriver."
"Time to rejoin Lt. Bellinger upriver then. Let's go. Left about," ordered Leighton.
UPRIVER
"Looks like they spotted us," offered Grandmaison. He continued....
"Yeah, here they come. Time to go," bellowed Bellinger.
As Grandmaison splashed into the river he shouted, "Leighton's trotting this way. He must have heard the shots and is hurrying to help. Get aboard Elizabeth, will you?"
CLOSING REMARKS
1. Chapter I, Leighton's and Bellinger's Scouts commence a series of short stories serving as background for the return of our Annual BIG Colonial Game. The setting is an imagineered Sudan for your entertainment and the raison d'être for our cast of intrepid gamers.
2. The Advance Guard from General Pettygree's approaching column is a few days distant northwest of Adana bound for the area Leighton and Bellinger scouted. They crossed the Semar River to march on easier ground on the western side of the river.
Ragnar Khan's Mountain Stronghold is located southeast of Bezama at the edge of the Kaffia Hills. The map is a game product from the mind of the late Jack Scruby.
3. Chapter I's miniatures are 54 and 60mms tall mostly from Britains, John Jenkin's Designs, and King and Country. The game will use 28-30mm miniatures.
4. Thank you for looking in. Check back here soon for the next chapter. Comments welcome.
